1) If any
faculty member has a concern about a student, or feels that any student is at
risk for any reason, please make sure to send his/her name to Susan Miller and
the Student Services staff. smiller@mca.edu
In addition, referrals may be made to Jennifer Gonzales for
academic counseling. jgonzales@mca.edu
2) The Black & White newsletter is back! In its new
format, Black & White will be a student-driven publication available to the
MCA community (especially students) via email blast and in a paper version
available at the Student Achievement Center in Rust Hall. Please encourage students to submit
artwork, articles, photos, advertisements, and notices. The first publication date for Fall
2012 will be October 1, with biweekly publication thereafter. Encourage students to talk to Cara
Sievers csievers@mca.edu or Susan Miller smiller@mca.edu if they have material to submit.
3) Next Friday, Sept. 28th is
Trolley night. As part of this monthly event, there will be an opening
from 5-7 PM in the lobby of the Brinkley Plaza on Main St. for the first MCA
student exhibition that is part of a partnership with Brinkley Plaza. Eight
to ten students' works will be shown so please come and support your students!
4) Nationally acclaimed
event designer and author Matthew Robbins will be on campus this week to talk
about his experience to the public as well as MCA students, faculty, and staff.
In addition to the open events, he has
agreed to review portfolios while here. There are nine 20-minute slots
for these reviews, beginning at 1 PM on Fri., Sept. 21. While Robbins' work
is focused on wedding design, as a professional artist he brings a different
perspective that could be most valuable to student artists. Please let your
students know about this, particularly juniors and seniors -- there are couple
of slots left to fill. Have students contact Carrie Brooks at cbrooks@mca.edu
or call ext. 251.
